National Training: Making Mental Health Groups Work in Job Corps
This training provides an in-depth look at effective mental health group strategies tailored for Job Corps students. Participants will gain the knowledge and tools necessary to facilitate engaging and impactful group sessions that support students' social, emotional, and personal development.

After completing the training, participants will be able to:

Understand group dynamics and implement effective group therapy strategies for socially shy or socially challenged students.

Develop skills to lead socially oriented groups that foster connection and engagement.

Gather curriculum ideas for “Chill and Chat” groups designed to encourage open discussions and peer support.

Facilitate group activities that promote Growth, Resilience, Integrity, and Tenacity (GRIT) among students.

Educate students on self-care, emotional resilience, and overcoming setbacks while distinguishing between healthy emotional expression and destructive behaviors.

Address key topics such as toxic masculinity, anger management, and program completion strategies.

Teach goal setting, self-confidence, determination, and integrity through team-building activities, problem-solving exercises, public speaking, and financial literacy.

Identify and implement a viable skills-building group on campus to support student retention and success.

Understand the MINORS skills-building curriculum and its components.

Take away actionable strategies for developing and running structured mental health and personal development groups that empower students and enhance their overall experience in Job Corps.
